Who Am I?

I thought I would include a ‘who am i’ section of this course because it’s always nice to know who is teaching you and how they got to be an authority of the subject. My name is April.  I am a stay at home mom to 2 wonderful little boys and a wife of 7 years to an amazing husband and father. When I had my first child, I was working part time, and planned to return after my maternity leave. But once I took one look into my new baby’s precious blue eyes, the plan changed forever.

No longer did I desire to leave my child and return to work, even if it was only part time. I wanted to be home with him. I wanted to be there and witness all his ‘firsts’. I didn’t want a sitter informing me that my baby took his first steps today, and boy, I should have been there…. no, I wanted to take in every moment of the short season of childhood. That’s when I decided I needed to learn how to make some money from home.

I wanted to find something I could do from the comfort of my home, without having to leave. In fact, I wanted to find something I could do in my jammies! After much thought, making money from my computer seemed to be my only option. I spent countless hours and sleepless nights scouring the internet for some kind of ‘doable’ way to make money online. In the end, what I came up with, was the little known method of making money taking paid surveys. 

Do I make a full time income? No. Although my husband can’t quit his day job yet, I am making money with paid surveys. And it’s the easiest money I have ever made. Best of all, I can work in my jammies! I look forward everyday to getting on my computer to ‘work’….it’s kind of like ‘me time’, yet still productive.

So, here I am, paying it forward. I want to teach you everything I have learned about how to make money taking these surveys, and I think you are going to have a lot of fun in the process.

What Are Paid Surveys?

Picture this…you develop a product, start a company, and make a few sales. It sure feels good to make that sale, but in the back of your mind, you know you can be making more. You just don’t quite know how. You need to tap into the minds of your customers. Is there something you could add to your product or service that would make them hoot and holler for more? What are they really looking for? And how do you find that out? How do you reach all the people that could potentially buy your product? 

Enter market research firms. Market research firms specialize in tapping into the minds of your customers. How? Through consumer surveys. They recruit folks just like you and I to answer questions about our buying habits. Companies hire market research firms to help them ‘feel’ out their consumers. And market research firms recruit survey takers to get this accomplished. 

Does It Cost Anything To Take Surveys?

Nope. Not a cent. If you have the time, they have the dime. That’s the beauty of this business. It’s totally free! There’s no start up costs involved, no investment, no training, all you do is answer questions about your spending habits and give your opinion on products and services you already use. Sometimes, you’ll even get to take a new product or service for a ‘test drive’, and of course, give your thoughts on it later.

Are All Paid Survey Panels Legitimate?

Good question! Here’s the short and simple answer….no. When I first started taking paid surveys, my very first survey was actually a scam. I was all curled up on my bed….in my jammies…..anxiously awaiting to make some money. I had received a survey invite through a panel I had signed up with earlier that day. I clicked the link in my inbox and it took me to a page that said “Start Your Survey!”. WooHoo! I was pumped!

My first question: Do you own a car? Well, yeppers, I sure do! Happily I chose “yes”. 

Next question: Do you own car insurance? Ummm…yeppers again. I own a car, so naturally, by law, I need insurance to go with it. Silly question. (Were they trying to catch criminals who drove without car insurance?)

Next question: Would I be interested in lowering my insurance payment each month? Uh….well, yea, isn’t everyone?….ok, wonder where this is going. It didn’t sound like questions about my consumer spending habits.

Next question: Wasn’t a question at all! It was a link to a car insurance offer!! 

I was steamy mad. I had been scammed into thinking I was taking a free paid survey, when in reality, somebody was trying to reel in a sale. NOT COOL!

Although I had been deceived, I wasn’t about to give up on making money taking surveys. I knew it could be done. I had scoured work at home forums and found people who were actually making real money, so I trucked on. 

After weeding through all the crap (for lack of a better term) out there, I found some pretty decent legitimate paid survey panels out there. Out of my frustration and experience, LegitimatePaidSurveysCritic.com was born. I have become a self appointed paid surveys critic, and have made it my job to find and report to you, and all the others out there who are looking to make money taking free paid surveys, all the legitimate paid survey opportunities I come across on the web.

If you’re anything like me, you are very busy, and your time is valuable. So, without further ado, let’s start taking action. Below is your homework for tomorrow. If you do nothing else, please please do number one. Having a dedicated email address specifically for all survey invitations will save you a boat load of frustration. 

Homework

1. Register a new email address and link it to your PayPal account. Having a dedicated email address specifically for paid surveys is one of the smartest first steps you can take. You don’t want survey invites to be mixed in with your personal emails from grandma. I know my personal email account gets flooded with new messages each day, so having a separate account just for survey invites has been a huge help. I have a Gmail account, but any free email provider will do.
2. Open a PayPal account. If you don’t already have one, open a Paypal account and link your dedicated email to it. More and more survey panels are paying via PayPal these days, so you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to receive your payment instantly. (It’s way better than waiting for a check to arrive via snail mail)
3. White List Us! If you haven’t already, be sure to put news@legitimatepaidsurveyscritic.com on your email white list. If you don’t, Pad Survey Bootcamp will end up in your spam folder. I can’t tell you how many times I have signed up for a newsletter or a free course only to find out 6 months down the road it has been landing in my spam folder. Grrrr….

1. Register A New Email Address. This step is VERY important. Google’s Gmail is a great free email application. Keeping your business email address separate from your personal email address is crucial to your success, especially in the paid survey industry. You don’t want the potential of time sensitive surveys getting lost in the sea of messages from family and friends. Most importantly, you don’t want your survey invites to end up in your Spam folder. Because it is a “must” to respond to each and every survey you are offered, missing them because they are in your spam box will only hurt your relationship with the paid survey panels. Be sure when you register your new email address you place each paid survey panel email address on your *whitelist* as to keep them out of your spam folder. Designate this email address SOLELY for your survey business. 
2. Open A PayPal Account.  If you don’t already have one, open a PayPal account. You’ll want a way for paid survey panels to instantly transfer your payment to you. Some survey panels only pay by check, but more and more panels are going the PayPal route because that’s what their panelists want. If you plan taking online surveys as a business, you may want to look into opening a Business PayPal Account. One of the benefits of this is you can earn a rate of return on your PayPal balance, which is nice if your balance gets high, get instant access to your money with a PayPal debit/credit card, and download your account history onto a spreadsheet or Quicken. Also, your money is insured up to $100,000 by the FDIC with a Business PayPal Account. Just some food for thought. If you are only taking paid surveys every once in awhile, a personal PayPal account will do just fine.

4. Organize Your Desktop. Getting and staying organized is vital to any business…home based or not. Since your paid survey business will be entirely based on your computer, it will be easy organize all the info you need into desktop folders. If you choose not to use Roboform, and even if you do, it is still a good idea to store all survey panel log in URLs along with their username and passwords in separate folders for quick accessibility.  When joining panels, the easiest thing to do would be to create the same username and password for each panel, but if you choose not to do that, keep a record of each panel’s log in info readily accessible. 
5. Join Free Legitimate Paid Survey Panels. Once you have stumbled across the world of online paid surveys, you will probably be very excited and want to sign up with as many free paid survey sites as possible. Here’s a helpful tip: don’t. Why, you ask? Because you will be completely overwhelmed. Survey invitations will be flowing into your email faster than you can take them. When you first start out, you really don’t need to sign up with more than 10 (15 at most) free paid survey panels right off the bat. Give yourself time to get organized and established with a few solid legitimate paid survey panels. Then, when the survey invites come rolling in, allot time specifically to work on taking and completing them. Pace yourself. There’s no rush to conquer the entire paid survey industry right off the bat. There is no one breathing down your neck to meet a deadline, and part of the beauty of this business is you can choose wherever you want and whenever you want to complete your online surveys. Probably the most important step (other than actually taking the online surveys) is joining legitimate paid survey panels. I emphasize the word “legitimate” because it is oh so crucial to stay far away from survey panels that will waste your time. These are the panels that will send you *imposter* surveys that look like real surveys, but at the end you are asked to make a purchase. Not cool. These are the kind of panels that give the paid survey industry a bad name. Remember…work smarter…not harder…this is the key to making money taking online surveys. Choose only legitimate paid surveys and you will be good to go!
6. Take Surveys and Get Paid! Drumroll please! This is where it gets good. This is where having an opinion really pays off!! There’s not that much to say about this step except it’s the fruit of all your hard work. CHA CHING! Go buy yourself something new!

 This business is a journey. The same paid survey panels that pay me my bread and butter, may not be the same panels that work for you. Because panels choose you based on your demographic profile, you may receive more survey invitations from one panel than another. You will eventually figure out what panels earn you the most, and when you do, my suggestion is to stick with those panels. Focus on maintaining a stable relationship with the survey panels that send you the most surveys and pay you the most money most often. Keep your profile with these panels up to date to ensure you will be chosen for every survey you are eligible for.
